Authorize a payroll run

A payroll run moves money only when the Payment Order Authorizer (POA) authorizes it. You authorize the whole run at once, with a verification code, Face ID or a trusted device. You can authorize from the web or the mobile app.

Before you start

  • Who: the POA only.

  • Where: web or mobile app.

  • Set up first: every recipient in the run is approved, and your Business Bank Account's available balance covers the full total. See Approve payroll recipients.

Authorize on the web

  1. In the left sidebar, select Transfers, then open the To authorize tab.

  2. Open the payroll run and check the total, recipients and send date.

  3. Authorize the run and complete your verification.

If you prepared the run yourself, you authorize it in the last step of Run payroll instead. See Run payroll.

Authorize on the mobile app

  1. Open the payroll run waiting for you.

  2. Authorize it and complete your verification. If some recipients still need approval, Approve recipients and authorize does both in one step.

Good to know

  • You can't authorize part of a run. To leave someone out, cancel the run and upload a corrected file.

  • If the available balance doesn't cover the total, the run can't be authorized. Add funds to your Business Bank Account first.

What happens next

A run sent now is processed straight away. A scheduled run waits for its payroll date. You see Payroll sent or Payroll scheduled, and the person who prepared it is notified. See Track a payroll run and its statuses.
