Fees associated with card transactions

Updated today

Using your Pemo card—whether at home or abroad—comes with powerful controls, real-time tracking, and unmatched transparency. That said, there are a few fees you might see when using your card. Here's the full breakdown so there are no surprises.

ATM Withdrawal Fees

We encourage digital payments for full visibility and smoother bookkeeping. But if you ever need cash, here’s what to expect: Cash and cash equivalent transactions incur standard banking fees as detailed in the below table.

When PEMO users withdraw cash from an ATM, this fee is applied to cover all associated costs across the ATM network and our partners.

Fee type

Amount

Domestic ATM Withdrawal

AED 5.25

International/Abroad ATM Withdrawal

AED 26.25

Things to note:

  • Why the fee? These charges cover ATM network costs and partner bank handling fees.

  • Some ATMs charge extra: In addition to our fee, an ATM (especially abroad) may charge a usage fee. Look for machines that don’t add this.

  • Plan ahead: If you need cash, withdrawing a single larger amount is more cost-effective than multiple smaller ones.

Why do are Pemo's ATM Withdrawal fees sometimes higher than usual

PEMO is designed to help businesses digitize transactions for better transparency and efficiency. Our fee structure reflects this goal by encouraging more digital transactions. However, we understand that cash withdrawals can be necessary for daily operations, so we've made this feature available for our customers.

I received a notification from a banks ATM about an additional fee being applied. Why is that?

Some banks may charge extra fees for using external cards at their ATMs, depending on their policies. In the UAE, most banks don’t apply these fees. If the ATM you’re using does, you can try another bank's ATM to avoid the additional charges.

Are there any other fixed transactions fees, such as e-commerce, balance inquieries, or transactions fees imposed by Pemo?

No, the only fixed transaction fee we charge is the one mentioned for withdrawals.

Fee's on international payment

Cross border fees apply when transacting with an overseas merchant or AED transactions processed by non UAE based organizations. Pemo charges a 3% transaction fee amongst the lowest in the industry.

The above fees applies when:

  • You make purchases in a foreign currency

  • You spend in AED, but the transaction is processed by a non-UAE bank or merchant (this includes major global companies like Google, Meta, Amazon, and Apple)

Good to know:

  • The fee is VAT-inclusive and the VAT portion is fully claimable for eligible businesses

  • Pemo sends monthly tax invoices (issued on the 3rd of each month) to help you reconcile these charges for bookkeeping and VAT filings

International Transactions FAQS

Why is an international transaction fee charged?

Transactions that happen with foreign merchants would incur additional cost by the card network and the schemes associated. This ensures seamless connectivity across the network and higher risk

Why was I charged a 2% fee for a transaction in AED?

The fee may apply if the merchant or organization you transacted with a merchant outside of UAE. While the currency is local, the payment may have been routed through an overseas entity (e.g Facebook, Google, Microsoft), triggering the International transaction fee.

Will I be charged an International Transaction fee if I transact in a foreign currency?

Yes, a fee is applicable for all out of UAE transactions.

Is the International transaction fee subject to VAT and claimable?

Yes, it's subject to VAT and can be claimed with proper accounting. An invoice will be issued on the 3rd of each month for the transactions from the previous months to facilitate the process.

How do we record international transaction fees in our account

Accounting treatment may differ by company standards but generally they are classified as banking transaction fees. See here for more info

Are these new fees? I have not seen them before

These fees are not new, but were incorporated before in the transaction amount charged in AED when an international transaction was performed. In alignment with the VAT regulation we have taken steps to give you more transparency and starting July 25.

2% seem to be on the high side, is this competitive?

Yes, Pemo is among the most competitive financial providers in the market with the lowest fees for these types of transactions.
